Off to Washington DC

Tomorrow I'm off to Washington Dc. for a week to catch up with friends, former staffers, a host family and get to check on what has not changed with my old ballpark the Pfitz. While out there I am going to get a chance to do all the fun things I didn't get to while I was out there last summer. Like go to all the muesums in town. It's going to be lot's of fun. Who knows what will come up. And in packing for this trip it's way easier to pack for a week than moving every six months

Stuff

One of the bad things about being a writer, English major, reader is that you tend acquire a lot of books and I won’t even begin to mention the games that I have. All that stuff is great and all, but once you start traveling around you realize how much of the stuff you don’t even use anymore and don’t need to carry around. But everytime you try to get rid of the stuff you keep on finding more and more reasons to keep it. And if you’re are not paying attention you somehow end up with more books. As much as you try to stop your self it’s a hard habit to break. So I just keep them around because you never know when you may end up reading them again. So when you travel you end up taking just a few of the books that mean the most to you, your clothes for four season because you never know what climate you me be in next. And the gear for your next destination together and try to stuff into two or three suitcases all trying to keep them under 50 pounds to make the airlines happy. Then board your flight for your next adventure. Knowing one of these days you’ll me moving into a place for good.

The Little things

The Little Things.

I’ve been home in North Dakota now for a little over two weeks, and during that time in addition to being a bum by not working and enjoying every second of it. In fact I haven’t had any desire to go back to my former job at Pizza Hut. And that is truly a good thing. Besides I’ll be pretty busy during the winter in Mammoth so it’s a good trade off. But I’m starting to go a little stir crazy but a trip back to DC to check out what’s going on with my old team and host family. It’s going to be a blast. But now that I have been home I’ve realized things I’ve missed about living in civilization and not in Denali National Park in Alaska and few things I've miss about denali

Here’s just a few things I’ve missed during a summer in a national park.

Getting up in the middle of the night and not having to get dressed and walk a quarter of a mile to use the bathroom.

Opening up the refrigerator and deciding what to eat for dinner at 10 at night,

Going to the store on whim, instead of planning two weeks in advance.

Perkins’s Runs.

Living in the same place that you work.

Drinking beer with people whose goal isn’t to get drunk and start fires. (Long story) instead it's to discuss beer and theology.

Being miles away from a ballpark.

Having a discussion about cows “when asked what have you been up too?”

Gaming.

These a few things I’ve missed about civilization

And now for some things I’ve missed about living in a national park.

Living in the same place you work.

Having conversations with people from three different states during lunch.

Talking to people from two eastern European countries during dinner, and having three lanagues used fluenty

Walking 100 yards and being in the middle of nowhere.
Starting a hike at 11:00 pm at night and not worrying about it getting dark at all.

The Midnight sun baseball game.

Being in a place that most never will get to in their lifetime.

Getting paid to work in a national park.

Never having to explain to people why you work in seasonal jobs, because everybody else is doing the same thing you are.

Are just a few things I’ve thought about.
